Ingram Micro’s V7 subsidiary looks to have recently kicked out another pair of budget-priced GPS units, with its new NAV730 and NAV740 model each keeping things under $300 while still maintaining some fairly decent specs. On the slightly higher-end, the $299 NAV740 boasts a 4.3-inch WQVGA touchscreen, along with text-to-speech capabilities, the usual range of PMP functions, and maps of the US with 11 million POIs pre-loaded on the included 2GB SD cards (other maps are also available depending on where you buy it). If that’s more than you need, the $199 NAV730 will still get the basic job done with a 3.5-inch QVGA touchscreen, those same PMP features, and some maps without any POIs on the bundled 1GB SD card. If that’ll do, you can grab either one right from all the usual sources right now.

Popularity: 1% [?] Filed under: GPS Just in case your iPod-equipped helmet, head-mounted camera and Bluetooth-enabled parka weren’t enough to distract you from actually paying attention to your fear when looking down the mile-long slope ahead, how’s about fiddling with the Satski rather than focusing on that pizza wedge? This handhald unit gives skiers, snowboarders and everyone else out there trying to make it down in one piece the ability to record position, altitude, speed and distance while on the mountain. Additionally, you’ll find options that enable you to avoid black runs, plot a course, listen to MP3s and play a few games while riding the lift. Heck, there’s even links to emergency contacts in case that halfpipe trip goes terribly wrong, and the built-in software lets users export data to Google Earth for future bragging purposes. Reportedly, this intriguing device will be priced at an almost unfathomable £1,500 ($3,087), but those strapped for cash can supposedly rent it for around £28 ($58) per day at participating resorts. Of course, it remains to be seen how well the touch panel responds to those ginormous gloves we all love to wear. UPDATE: Seems that US-based snow bunnies can get this same type of functionality on their current Garmin / Magellan GPS — and for a lot less cash, too. [Via ShinyShiny]

Pioneer shows off a 3D gesture controller for cars at the Tokyo Motor ShowPosted by: in GPSFiled under: GPS, Transportation Apparently this rig was at CEATEC and we missed it, but Pioneer is showing off a triple-screened 3D gesture controller for cars at the Tokyo Motor Show, and it looks pretty amazing. The left screen shows GPS, while the far right screen shows potential overlays — selecting an icon from the right screen allows you to “grab” it from the middle holographic section and put it on the left GPS screen. It sounds crazy and potentially distracting, but it’s got that KITT vibe we love so much, and it’s interesting to see gesture and 3D come together like this. Check the read link for lots more pics of this thing in action. [Via Navigadget and Switched]

Harman Kardon is still relatively new to the GPS game, but it looks to be increasing its presence in a fairly big way today, introducing three new units in its “Guide + Play” series. Those include the low-end GPS-310 model (a follow-up to the GPS-300), the slightly more capable GPS-510, and the top-end GPS-810. Each of those pack a 4-inch widescreen display (or 4.3-inches on the GPS-810), along with text-to-speech functionality, 2GB of internal memory and, of course, all the usual GPS and PMP features you’d expect from a device dubbed “Guide + Play.” The GPS-510 ups things a bit with real-time traffic info, additional video options, and support for SDHC cards, while the GPS 810 tops things off with a wireless rotary controller (seen above), an FM transmitter, and built-in Bluetooth for hands-free calling. Look for the whole lot to be available next month, with the GPS-310, 510 and 810 setting you back $350, $450, and $600, respectively.

Popularity: 1% [?] Filed under: GPS If you thought Magellan’s RoadMate 2000 series was low-end, you ain’t seen nothing yet. Turns out, the company has oh-so-quietly released a (relatively unsightly) RoadMate 1200, which has managed to slip under the radar until now. Spotted online in a number of locations for less than $200, this 3.5-inch navigator features a QVGA touchscreen, a Centrality Atlas processor, QuickSpell / SmartDetour functions, 1.3 million POIs, NAVTEQ maps of the continental United States / Puerto Rico / Hawaii on a 1GB SD card and a rechargeable Li-ion that’s good for around three hours. It’s a real yawner, we know, but there’s a decent chance this thing’s pricetag could sink even lower on Black Friday with a little luck. [Via NaviGadget]

Popularity: 1% [?] Filed under: GPS ![]() The cool kids might cruise in their cars on Friday nights, but you know we kick it old-school and troll the FCC database for hot new gadgets — which is how this Capoint XROAD V4050 GPS turned up in our sights. The 4.3-inch touchscreen PND — a rebrand of the Takara GP43, according to Navigadget — comes with a 2GB SD card preloaded with US and Canadian map data and features the oh-so-popular SiRFStar III chip, a 400MHz Samsung CPU, Bluetooth, and MP3 and AVI support. No word on pricing or availability, but that Takara unit sold in Europe for €500 ($719). [Via NaviGadget]

Popularity: 1% [?] Filed under: Cellphones, GPS, Handhelds Last we heard from Psion Teklogix, it was busy cranking out a handheld workhorse for those rough days in the field, but now the outfit is celebrating its 40th year in the biz by offering up the iKon. This PDA / smartphone features a 3.7-inch VGA display, an integrated camera, built-in GPS, GSM / GPRS / UMTS connectivity options, Bluetooth, WiFi, a barcode scanner and your choice of Windows Mobile 6 Classic / Professional or CE.net 5. Furthermore, this tough guy can withstand falls from five feet to polished concrete, and it’ll also hold its own when faced with sandstorms and downpours. Sadly, Psion Teklogix isn’t fessing up to what the iKon will cost, but you can certainly contact the firm directly when it goes on sale this December should you be interested.
