Remember that white Sega Game Gear that you always read about — maybe even saw in a picture — but never managed to actually find in real life? In the minds of average Game Gear owners, it reached near-legendary status; it didn’t matter that the white wasn’t necessarily any better-looking than the black, the sheer rarity of the darned thing made it an object of pure, unadulterated lust. Yeah, well, that’s pretty much where we are with the white Touch Diamond right now — we know it exists, but finding one is nigh impossible, and that alone makes it a thousand shades of awesome as far as we’re concerned. Taiwanese site ePrice has some hands-on shots up and we think we’re loving the look of the prism effect in the new color along with the two-tone action up front; yes, we’d like to see it launch everywhere, but a certain (perhaps nostalgic) part of us wants it to stay impossibly rare.

Love UIQ? Well, bless your heart; we’re sorry for your recent loss. We’re also sorry that you have to see this, the best picture gallery we’ve seen yet of Sony Ericsson’s doomed Paris — a phone that would’ve undoubtedly been the ultimate execution of UIQ and the very top model in the company’s line (X1 possibly excepted, depending on your point of view) had it not been unceremoniously cut down before its prime. We take some comfort in knowing that enough prototypes made it out into the wild for high-quality pictures to show up, but for most of us, this is as close as we’re ever going to get.

Earlier this month, the almighty RAZR fell from the top spot as America’s best selling handset. Now, we’re finding that the RAZR3 / Ruby has been canned. Granted, the move isn’t all that surprising — after all, Moto’s known for awhile now that it simply can’t keep tweaking the RAZR instead of, you know, innovating. But honestly, if this signals that the company is serious about moving forward and possibly adopting Android on the double, we won’t shed a tear. Okay, maybe one, but only after all the lights are out.

It’s been a nice little while since we’ve seen any new navigators from Medion, but the outfit’s hitting back with its relatively forgettable GoPal P5430. The European PND sports a 5-inch touchscreen display, integrated TMC antenna, fingerprint sensor, text-to-speech functionality, an inbuilt FM transmitter and pre-installed NAVTEQ maps of Western and Eastern Europe. Like we said, forgettable — but you should know it’s priced at

MTV and French carrier SFR are back at it with yet another remix of their Modelabs-sourced music phone, and this one’s just about as funky fresh as we’ve seen ‘em. Following the MTV3.3, the new MTV3.4 carries the torch with one-click access to MTV content (in other words, you’d better really be into MTV to buy this thing), a 2-megapixel camera, 3G, video calling, and microSD expansion. It runs as little as €9 (about $12) depending on the plan and the contract — so MTV aside, it seems to be a pretty good deal considering you’re getting a tricked-out 3G slider.

We knew this day would eventually come, but somehow we’re still misting up a little — Linux has been ported to the iPhone and iPod touch. Dev Team member planetbeing is the mastermind in charge of bringing everyone’s favorite open-source OS to Apple’s handhelds, and while it’s a little rough around the edges (read: no touchscreen drivers, sound, or WiFi / cell radio support), it’s definitely the first step on the road to hacking nirvana. The team is hard at work, and it even sounds like they’re thinking about porting Android in the near future (!), so hit the read link to try it out and lend a hand if you can — or just head on past the break for a quick vid of the port in all its text-scrolling glory.

Tired of having to stand up (way, way up) on the brumby to pull down even a single bar of EDGE from the dusty ditches of the Great Central? We hear you, Aussies — and so does Telstra. The carrier has retooled its 165i “Country Phone” from ZTE, making it better based on usability testing and customer feedback; in this case, “better” means it’s gotten a little smaller, features a nicer screen, and has gained AGPS (probably not a bad thing to have when you’re in the middle of nowhere). It’s ruggedized and makes use of an oh-so-rare extendable antenna for insane reception that earns it Telstra’s coveted Blue Tick certification, but you still get 3G, Bluetooth, FM radio, and a 2-megapixel camera — all told, it’s all set up to be a “big hit in the bush” to steal a bit of Telstra’s verbiage. It goes for $529 AUD (about $346) when it drops on December 1.

For now, Android’s got about as much enterprise support as a Sidekick (well okay, a little more, but not much) — so that’s got to be keeping G1s out of the hands of throngs who are too tied-down to Exchange, Notes, or some equally stuffy piece of server-side software to be able to make the switch. China’s QiJi feels your pain, which is where the company’s surprisingly okay-looking i6 comes into play: the handset supports both Android and Windows Mobile, although you can’t dual-boot — you’ve got to choose one and run with it until you decide to install the other. It packs a 624MHz processor, 256MB of ROM, 128MB of RAM, a trackball, and — in lieu of a QWERTY slide — an on-screen Chinese keyboard with stylus support that we haven’t seen before. Android, we love ya and all, but until you go through puberty, this multi-platform support is just about the best thing we’ve ever heard.

[Thanks, zsx]

We’ve already seen it unboxed and, of course, endlessly shown off by Meizu’s own J. Wong, but it looks like some independent demos of the now infamous Meizu M8 are finally starting to crop up online, with one of the first coming from Chinese retailer CNMO.com. While some of the details are lost in translation, there’s still quite a bit to be gleaned from the ten videos available at the link below, not the least of which is the fact that the touchscreen seems to be somewhat of an exercise in patience, to put things kindly — check out part 8 for the challenge that is pausing a track. The phone’s camera also seems to be a bit sluggish, but not completely out of line with your run of the mil cellphone camera. Touchscreen aside, however, the phone’s interface does appear to be fairly slick and, yes, oddly familiar. Head on past the break to get started with part one of the blow-out, and hit up the read link to check out the rest.

We had always heard that Telus’ BlackBerry Storm would be made available in time for the holiday season, but according to the estimated ship date on Future Shop’s website, it’ll be pushing it. The touchscreen handset can be pre-ordered right now by interested Canadians, though the $649.99 sticker may give you pause. Better not hold up your plans too long though — wouldn’t want that December 18th delivery date to slip.
